Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificually induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?

The Liberal Media and Bush's PR Machine

In light of the recent revelations of 'Jeff Gannon' and Bush's dubious (and possibly illegal) propoganda here is an article I wrote for the local newspaper over a year ago. As far as I am concerned this kind of paid for advertising and selective source journalism is highly un-American. Regardless of party affiliation, if these activities don't sicken you, you should get out of my country. Americans deserve better than this from their leaders.
The 'Liberal Media' from Asheville-Citizen Times, Dec. 17, 2003

Bush and Homoerotica

"I was rejected for a White House press pass at the start of the Bush administration, but someone with an alias, a tax evasion problem and Internet pictures where he posed like the 'Barberini Faun' is credentialed to cover a White House that won a second term by mining homophobia and preaching family values?" -Maureen Dowd

"'Jeff Gannon' is now at least the sixth 'journalist' (four of whom have been unmasked so far this year) to have been a propagandist on the payroll of either the Bush administration or a barely arms-length ally like Talon News while simultaneously appearing in print or broadcast forums that purport to be real news." -Frank Rich

"Proof that 'the liberal media' is but a figment of right-wing mythology has now arrived in the person of one James Guckert, formerly known as Jeff Gannon. Were the American media truly liberal -- or merely unafraid to be called liberal -- the saga of Mr. Guckert's short, strange, quasi-journalistic career would be resounding across the airwaves." -Joe Conason

Donkeys v. Elephants

For the record, this site is not party affiliated. Both parties have sold out the common good. It is just that the G.O.P. seems to be taking it to a new extreme. The Republicans should embrace their conservativism because the current administration of right-wing hawks are hell bent on a zealous ideology. Eventually, it will cost the elephants dearly. The Democrats on the other hand are a bunch of ninnies. Yes, ninnies. And "Slick Willy" sold out the party to Big Business. I say, go Green. Then again, maybe there is hope for the people in Dean. Afterall, he said what everyone else was afraid to say. And for those Dems feeling defensive, ask yourselves "What did the party do when Dean spoke the truth about "Mess-o-potamia"? They attacked him. Ran him out of the race. And put in a uncharismatic putz who eventually lost. So, yes, there is plenty of Bush bashing here. But there is more than the colors blue or red.

Help AntiWar.com

Antiwar.com needs your help. As a non-profit organization, they've been giving the news that the mainstream media often refuses to or glosses over. The sources they use are legit and they steer clear of hot air punditry. However, they constantly struggle to keep their service going and soon they will have to cut back on their coverage. Unlike the pro-war hawks in Washington they do not get a blank check courtesy of the American taxpayer. All support comes from contributions. Please help keep these guys going. Contribute today before a positive voice fades away.

Welcome

So here is "el bloggo", The Gospel According to Luke. I know, the title is a bit ostentatious but it was not my idea. I wish it was though. Even more apropos given where I'm livin'.
And for all of you who do read the Good Book I will from time to time have some biblical references on this site. But if you came here for some good Christian info I'm sorry to say this ain't the place. Alas, this is politics.
I forget which Greek philosopher said something along the lines of "politics is life" but I see it the same. Not so much that you should live and breathe "politricks" but at the same time the policies that our leaders construct dictate the parameters of our lives (and our children's). Issues of environment, economics, social welfare, and of course war and peace directly effect us all personally. That is why I feel the need to share these things. I believe we need to educate ourselves on politics, we need to keep our focus on the decision makers, and we need to discuss the "issues" and "connect the dots". One world, One family, One destiny. Peace.

Quote 'o the Day

The man who has no imagination has no wings. Muhammad Ali

Joke of the Week

The President, the First Lady and Dick Cheney are flying on Air Force
One. George looks at Laura, chuckles and says, "You know, I could throw a $1,000 bill out the window right now and make somebody very happy." Laura shrugs her shoulders and says, "Well, I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make ten people very happy." Cheney says, "Of course then, I could throw one hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people very happy." The pilot rolls his eyes and says to his co-pilot, "Such big shots back there..... hell, I could throw all of them out the window and make 56 million people very happy."
